pro per versus pro se
10/03/21 7:31 PM

I got some help from a paralegal and told her I wanted my complaint to be pro se but she put pro per instead.

I did not know pro per existed until I saw this. I did a web search for the difference. Everything I found was very confusing. Should I use pro se or pro per or is there no real difference?

Pls advise,
Thanks,

ajt

The term “pro per” is an abbreviation of the Latin phrase “in propria persona,” meaning “in their own person,” and it refers to a situation where a litigant represents themselves, without a lawyer. Pro per is synonymous with the more commonly used term pro se.
