what defines how venue lines are drawn?

Motion to dismiss based on lack of personal jurisdiction -- one video mentioned different states; what about different counties?
Motion to Dismiss (video) 3m34s

If a far-distant county court is telling me by phone that I'd better come show up way out in their county for multiple dockets and hearings and trial (or else get arrested), are they incorrectly presuming to have personal jurisdiction?

And is that considered legitimate on their part, or did they also open themselves up to having the case dismissed for insufficiency of process?

I would really like to know the answer to this. Anybody know? I'm all ears but nobody is piping up.

And along those same lines, if there is a way to defend oneself from the convenience of one's own county, I'd sure prefer to do that, instead of repeatedly having to travel way across the other side of Texas.

Venue is explained in the course, FRANK14. It is base on several factors including but not limited to where the parties reside, where the damage was done, where the evidence is located or where it may be found, etc. Please consult your local jurisdiction's rules on venue as my course urges. Thanks.
