reservation of rights and protecting your rights when signing a document

what does the law say about protecting your rights when signing a contract at the BMV. Manager at BMV stated I could only sign my first and last name only and would not allow me to sign under duress. what is the best way to sign under duress or under constraint (Vi Coactus) without unfairly being determined as in dishonor and incompetent. is there rule i can refer to about signatures?

MARC8,

Just a guess; if the BMV's doors are open for business and you went there freely to do business, even if they WOULD allow some type of modified signature from you, it MOST LIKELY wouldn't mean anything.

That whole V.C. signature thing seems very pipe-dreamish IMO.

To reserve your rights in a contract, READ the contract and find the rights that the author of the contract wants to limit or take from you and address them individually and immediately.

What I'm saying is that there are no "magical" signatures.
